Lauren Husting DOT COM SO COOL

Hello friends and students and colleagues!

This is my all new, renovated for ease on your eyeballs, super great merged website! I have combined my professional page with my studio page so that everything is in one place.

My name is Lauren Husting, and I play trombone. I also teach privately- trombone, baritone/euph, and tuba. I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. You can use this site to find out when I’m playing next, what I’m working on, and how to get started with private lessons.

Happy practicing!

The Power of I Don’t Know

Something I’m still learning how to say.

Regularly, new students will ask me, “Am I playing the right mouthpiece?”  My answer is usually, “I don’t know.”  This answer often surprises them.  I explain that because we are just starting to work together, I’m still learning their strengths and weaknesses, and planning how to address them.  That might include equipment.  It might not.

I don’t know.

It’s important to be aware when “I don’t know” is the best answer.

In college football we’ve been told all year that the SEC is the best conference and that the Big 10 is not very good.  In the bowl games this year, the Big 10 went 3-1 against the SEC.  So which is the better conference?

I don’t know.

We’re given long term weather forecasts daily.  You can open the weather app on your phone and get one right now.  I’ve done this a number of times when planning travel.  It’s astounding…

2015 and Beyond

As with almost every new year, I’ve found that initial drive to ‘do more’ with many aspects of my life: career, relationships, finances, health, etc. Of course like most folks it lasts a month or two and then it’s business as usual.

In 2015 I have a new motivator: For the first time in many years I find myself completely financially supported by my performance and teaching. I like this, I like it a lot, and I’m determined to keep it that way. It’s driven me to establish a weekly routine of tasks having to do with my business and my professional growth.

So what you’ll see hear is more weekly (at the least!) posts, updates to my studio content, and continuing additions to my Resources pages. I’ll add information about local and regional auditions and performance opportunities, how to prepare a college audition, tips for instrument care, and much more.

Plus I’ll continue to blog here about what’s on my mind, what I’ve discovered recently, and what’s new in the world of performance and education.

Here’s to 2015 being happy and productive for all of us!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my studio blog! This page is intended as a supplement to my professional webpage, http://laurenhusting.com. Gigs, media, and news will continue to update there, but this is a space for me to share knowledge with my students!

I’ll be posting relevant articles, videos, and links in hopes that students of all ages will find new wisdom into music-making.

Enjoy!
