My best friend and lifelong companion Gatsby, aka the best cat in the entire world, passed away on March 23rd, surrounded by love. I miss him dearly.
I played this improv for him as I contemplated life without his cheerful, mischievous, compassionate little soul. Toward the middle I start to transition into the tune of “Waltz for Gatsby”, which I wrote for him last year and arranged for brass quartet.

I’m sorry about Gatsby. My own beloved cat Tangent passed away in February. While she was more fond of hiding under the bed while I practiced than trying to disrupt me, I still think about her every day.
Your song for him is beautiful, and you’ve inspired me – maybe now I’ll make up my own for Tangent.
Love to you and your dearest Tangent. I know she will be a muse and inspiration to you for many years.
